This Year’s Top Engagement Ring Trends

Every year, more than 100,000 people get married in Argentina. A marriage is a true celebration of love and commitment and generally begins with an engagement. That all important engagement ring is a symbol of your devotion – it is a promise that you make to your loved one, that you will be with them forever. This is why it is so important that you choose an engagement ring that you are really happy with, one that will always be treasured.

The classic silver band

For many Argentinian women, a classic silver band is given as an engagement ring and this will never go out of fashion. On trend this year is white gold – it is hard wearing and unlike silver, it is less likely to scratch and bend. It is worth saving a little each month to purchase your engagement ring. Set yourself a budget when you are looking to buy a ring and stick to it when you are out shopping. Make sure that you check the sizing too before you buy, as it is more costly to adjust a white gold ring than a silver one.

Mixed metals

Although yellow gold and silver are a traditional choice for an engagement ring, mixed metal rings including titanium, platinum, rose gold and even steel are on trend this year. They can be ingeniously combined to create unique colour combinations, sanded and polished completely smooth. The oxidised metals are particularly effective if you have diamonds or other clear stones in your engagement ring, the dark colors will offset the brilliance of your stones, giving them more clarity and sparkle. Many of the major jewelry designers this year are going for mixed metals, for instance Tiffany & Co have a beautiful platinum ring that has been offset with a pink diamond set in contrasting rose gold. Zac Posen’s collection also features entwined bands made of both yellow and white gold.

Gyspy set diamonds

A thick band, gyspy-set with small diamonds is really fashionable this year for an engagement. This style of ring still has bling, but isn’t so flashy that it will draw unwanted attention if you are out in Buenos Aires. A great alternative to diamonds is pink sapphires or rubies. Red and pink are the colors of love and are also considered to attract good fortune – perfect for a marriage.

 Eternity Rings

An eternity ring has a very special meaning – it is the symbol of never ending love. The ring is a band of precious metal that is set with a continuous line of gemstones, all cut to the same size. The eternity ring is normally given to a spouse for a significant anniversary; however, it has become popular to give an eternity ring for an engagement. During the 18th century it was extremely fashionable for the stones in the ring to be a number of different colors to create a message, such as D.E.A.R.E.S.T – the D for Diamond, E for Emerald, Amethyst, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz. Having a message in your eternity ring stones is again on trend, more than 200 years later.

Mis-matched pairs of stones

In Europe and North America, a single solitaire diamond is often the classic engagement ring choice. However the trend sweeping the world is to have a mismatched pair of stones in your engagement ring – one to represent you and one to represent your loved one. These stones don’t even have to be the same size and shape, it is more eye catching to see a pear-cut stone with a round one, set side by side. Think about what kind of stone would represent you – perhaps you would go for a birthstone? For instance, if you were born in January, you would choose garnet, or topaz if you were born in November. Using mismatched stones is a great way to personalise the engagement ring that you will wear for the rest of your life.

Restyling an heirloom

When actress Meghan Markle got engaged to British Prince Harry, she was given a yellow gold and diamond ring that had great sentimental value – it once belonged to Prince Harry’s beloved mother, the late Princess Diana. Three years later, Megan updated the ring to include a delicate pave band and on either side of the middle gem are two round cut diamonds. If you have a special piece of jewelry that has a sentimental meaning to your, how about incorporating it in your engagement ring? You can create your own design, but using stones or a band that have real meaning.

An engagement ring is a very personal item of jewelry that you will want to treasure for the rest of your life. This year’s trends are understated, yet classic and beautiful.
